FlyQuest sweeps Alter Ego to win DFRAG Invitational; book ticket to Singapore Major

FlyQuest had two goals when they prepped for this week's DFRAG Invitational; claim revenge over NEXVOID for last week's defeat at Logitech G Pro Series, and lock down an Asia VRS spot for the PGL Singapore Major.

And while it wasn't NEXVOID who met them in the best-of-five final on Nov. 1, they stuck to their word, defeating an eager Alter Ego 3-0 (13-9, 16-14, 13-8) to lock in the DFRAG Invitational trophy.

FQ opened the series with their pick of Inferno, recovering from a tough four-round T-side to put up a near-impregnable defence — the Aussies (and Kiwi) went 9-1 on CT to start the series strong, 13-9.

Alter Ego only fought back harder on their pick of Ancient, which they took in overtime against NEXVOID a day prior. This one proved to be a clash of titans; Joshua "INS" Potter (30-21, 1.78) and Adelin "adeX" Nica (33-17, 1.61) lit up the server, while the rest of the players hung on for dear life.

The teams couldn't be split in regulation, but multiple fast B hits and walkouts saw AE constantly retaking bomb plants, and their clutch luck ran out in overtime 16-14.

Alter Ego's last stand came on Anubis, but it wouldn't last long past halftime; a 7-5 T-side lead showed promise, but FQ bit back on their own T-side and chewed through AE 13-8 to win DFRAG Invitational.

Alter Ego's trip isn't over in Australia — the boys will have a day to relax and explore greater Brisbane before heading home on Nov. 2 to prepare for the remainder of the season. FlyQuest's focus now switches to Singapore, with Stage 1 of the major kicking off Nov. 24.

Exact Asia VRS seeding for the Singapore Major will be confirmed by Valve on Nov. 2 AEST.
