It was a historic day at the DFRAG Studio in Brisbane as THUNDER dOWNUNDER kept their hands wrapped firmly around the OCE CS crown, taking down SemperFi 2-1 (13-7, 16-19, 13-6) to claim a stunning LAN win on debut.
TdU was made to work for it, fighting off a desperate Ground Zero in the lower bracket — itself a behemoth of a best-of-three — before returning in the afternoon to break SemperFi hearts.
Tyson "asap" Paterson (61-43, 1.33 HLTV rating) was the most consistent of the TdU boys on the day, but veteran Jay "Liazz" Tregillgas was the one to drive the dagger deep in the grand final.

Liazz began the series slow, but utterly torched SemperFi in the decider on Anubis, recording a LAN career-best 2.47 rating and 26-8 K/D on the way to the $11,000 prize.
Kristers "keen" Dārznieks (58-56, 1.19 rating) was the best of the SemperFi bunch who struggled on Inferno to start the series, before showcasing textbook resilience and calm under pressure on a prolonged Ancient.
SemperFi was down 8-4 after a solid TdU CT side, but rebounded to win six of the first seven rounds on their own CT side, all retakes and defuses.
TdU broke back and strung three rounds straight to threaten a 2-0 grand final win, but through a crucial James "SaVage" Savage (24-20, 1.19 rating) clutch and an awakened Mārtiņš "shadiy" Gūtmanis (22-23, 1.13 rating), SemperFi pushed into OT and eventually took the second map.

Ancient would be all she wrote for SemperFi, however. Liazz put the experienced outfit to the sword on Anubis, dropping double-digit frags on both halves including a 12-2 CT side in just seven rounds.
The result has huge ramifications for the VRS rankings as the Cologne Major draws closer. According to HLTV's predictions, TdU leapfrogs SemperFi thanks to the DFRAG Wildcard LAN title — but there's several opportunities before the cutoff for SemperFi to strike.
Notably, tomorrow's ANZC Autumn LAN, also at the DFRAG Studios in Brisbane, will grant SemperFi the opportunity of revenge with TdU also in attendance. So too will Ground Zero attend, with the boys in green falling oh-so-short of a grand final appearance of their own.
TdU was pushed to the brink in the lower-bracket final 2-1 (16-19, 13-4, 22-20), with decider Nuke needing three overtimes to determine a winner.
A shattered GZ will have their own chance at revenge, with an ANZC Autumn playoff spot on Tuesday more than likely.
