SemperFi pull ahead in OCE with DFRAG Open Series victory

SemperFi pull ahead in OCE with DFRAG Open Series victory

SemperFi has added another OCE title to their cabinet following their 2-0 (13-6, 13-3) victory over Ground Zero at Season 1 of the DFRAG Open Series.

With Rooster absent and competing (well, commentating) in Sweden at ESL Pro League, SemperFi capitalised and affirmed their position as OCE's top dog, completing a flawless run to claim the inaugural DFRAG Open Series.

SemperFi entered Stage 3 without so much as a sweat following a clean group run with wins over Aura and Mindfreak, but was pushed to regulation by Vantage in their bracket opener.

After a 13-7 win on Mirage, it took a minor comeback and a 9-3 CT half to put Vantage away, with the efforts of Antony "Kiyo" Frilingos (22-18, 1.30 HLTV rating) in vain.

Vantage, who returned to competitive CS2 with the acquisition of "did you know" shortly before the DFRAG Open Series began, was the first to fall in Stage 3 after a 2-0 (13-3, 13-11) loss to Mindfreak in the lower bracket.

It would be an upper bracket final rematch after Ground Zero sent Mindfreak packing following a messy 2-1 (13-6, 6-13, 13-6) series, but try as they might, GZ wasn't able to exact revenge in the grand final.

SemperFi opened the final with a 9-3 lead on Mirage and never looked back. Chrstian "ADDICT" Pendleton (17-11, 1.73) led the way as SemperFi closed out Mirage 13-6, then rode the momentum through Dust 2 to take the trophy 13-3.

Eyes now turn to late-November where SemperFi will be out to defend their DFRAG Open crown in Season 2. Before that; sole OCE hopes FlyQuest will head to Hungary for the StarLadder Budapest Major, while Rooster is off to Shanghai, China for eXTREMESLAND.
