Dfrag.gg is excited to cover The Shed Showdown this weekend, a PUG-style event where players are randomly assigned to teams on the day for a chance to win prizes such as Counter-Strike 2 skins and cases.
The event is run by a group called Donnie’s Shed and will begin at 6:00pm AEST on Saturday, September 7th. The team who finishes in first place will receive 25 Revolution Cases and the tourney MVP will be awarded a special undisclosed prize with more rewards still to be announced.
Once teams are selected using a random spinning wheel, it will be a single elimination bracket to fight through and claim The Shed Showdown September throne. The most recent The Shed Showdown MVP was given to former DXA AWPer Antony “Kiyo” Frilingos, who played alongside Shelly, Cream, Kezza and Finn5tar.
I was able to have a chat with Jake “DonnieLord” Cozens, one of the founding members of The Shed Showdown to get the full picture of the history of the clan and their experience in running local esports events.
The Shed Showdown started as a group of mates playing scrims, but as the group grew in numbers over time, they saw an opportunity to make it more official and organized their first event this year in 2024. To ensure a fair and balanced tournament, given the diverse skill levels and game sense within the group, they opted for a system where all teams and map selections were randomized.
This approach aimed to prevent any single team from dominating and also provided players with the opportunity to connect and play with new people. The group noticed that more skilled players were signing up to play The Shed Showdown events which increased the competitive side but also allowed for more casual players to enhance their knowledge about the game in an encouraging and fun environment. “We want to make this a fun experience for everyone of every skill level” Donnie said, adding that feedback from competitors has been important to the group.

I was curious about what contributes to a successful event, and Donnie explained that organization, preparation, and time management are all key factors. The group plans each tournament out about two to four weeks in advance to give enough time to test out servers, community maps and gather data from the players. Their first event ran over two days as they couldn't fit all the games into one night. The group recognized that “the time wasted in between matches was critical,” so they addressed this issue by boosting staff to organize the next teams more efficiently and by adding more servers to allow multiple games to run simultaneously.
Donnie went on further to explain the motivation for running The Shed Showdown. The event “brings a really good community together” where everyone knows they are playing on a level playing field, unlike the in-game Premier mode for CS2 which is notoriously plagued by cheaters and unfair matchups. Everyone who signs up for The Shed Showdown is there to have a good time playing with mates and potentially meet some new friends.
The response from previous participants has been overwhelmingly positive regarding the event. The tournament is open to players of all skill levels and celebrates the passion our local scene has for playing CS2.
You can enter the tournament via the Dfrag.gg event page, which will direct you to the Donnies Shed Discord server for further instructions. The event runs from 6pm till around 11:30pm AEST this Saturday September 7th. Games will be streamed on twitch via The Shed Showdown twitch account. Registrations will be cut off at 6pm on the day of the tournament, so there’s still time to sign up if you're looking to have a bit of fun playing CS with a great group of people this weekend.
