HyperX Intel Nationals 2026 - Preview: FQ, TdU headline season opener

Tomorrow's media day kicks off a huge weekend in Brisbane as DFRAG hosts the HyperX Intel Nationals 2026.

Eight of OCE's best descend upon the DFRAG Studio to battle in what is the first offline event in the region in the new "season" following the IEM Cologne Major, which wrapped in June.

While the lion's share of the $10,000 AUD prize pool is up for grabs, it's the bevy of VRS points for winning that has teams hungry to top the standings this weekend in Brisbane. Here's everything you'll need to know about the HyperX Intel Nationals 2026!

The HyperX Intel Nationals 2026 sees our eight teams seeded into two GSL-standard groups, from which the top two head to the playoffs. Our four remaining teams then battle through a double-elimination bracket until one team remains.

All eyes will be on FlyQuest, who, while are natively an Oceanic roster, will make their offline OCE debut in Brisbane at this event. They'll also be doing so without an official fifth, following the departure of Portuguese sniper story after the Cologne Major.

Instead, they've employed one of OCE's biggest names from the past in Gratisfaction, who makes a return to the region as a stand-in for FQ this week. On top of this, coach AZR is reportedly unable to attend the event (put the wallet on a chain will you, mate?).

As such, there's never been a better opportunity for our next-best (some say even better) squads Down Under to snag a huge win over the region's frontrunners. THUNDERdOWNUNDER is refreshed after a surprise run in Cologne, while Ground Zero will be knocking on the door after bolstering their squad with ex-SemperFi duo HaZR and sliimey.

Team Abyssal netted a high-seed spot courtesy of SemperFi's withdrawal — but don't let them hear you say that was the only reason. Abyssal has made plenty of noise over the past few months and with the core of dangeR, gump, and vinhy firing on all cylinders, you can't rule them out of making it to Saturday's playoffs.

Qualifiers Rooster, under the everlasting lead of chelleos, marches on, and — as proven by their 2-1 win over GZ at DFRAG Open Series 5 — are more than capable of an upset on a good day. Mindfreak has rebuilt around the "low cortisol" core following the departure of tucks, with the young roster debuting on LAN this week.

Rounding out the attendees list is Arcade who is back again after their last appearance in March's DFRAG Wildcard LAN, and perennial OCE org DXA who, after some controversy, will attend the event in place of qualifiers MARKnLARRY.
