Ground Zero wins DFRAG Open Series 6; qualification spots for Wildcard LAN locked

DFRAG Open Series 6 has wrapped up with Ground Zero taking down Abyssal 2-0 (13-1, 13-8) to claim their first Open Series title.

It was a statement win from GZ, who sought revenge after Abyssal defeated them in the upper-bracket final on Tuesday night. There we saw Dust 2 and Ancient, as well as a focused Abyssal who took the series cleanly.

It wasn't the case in Thursday's grand final, however, with GZ opening on Ancient with a fury, demolishing the Krakens 13-1. It was looking just as dominant on Anubis until Abyssal hit the T-side, upping the pace to all but draw level, but an adjustment from GZ kept them ahead with their lead unassailable.

While the two finalists battled, the qualification list for the 2026 DFRAG Wildcard LAN was already locked in after Wednesday night's lower-bracket final.

Both Abyssal and Ground Zero were already confirmed for LAN thanks to their performances in the Open Series thus far in 2026. Joining them will be Open Series 4 runner-ups and Open Series 5 champs Rooster, and HyperX Intel Nationals LAN winners FlyQuest.

All remaining qualification spots will be issued as invites, with the entire VRS Asia rankings list used to secure the final four teams to attend. Invites will be determined by August 21's VRS rankings.

The likes of The MongolZ, TYLOO, Lynn Vision, and THUNDERdOWNUNDER are currently in line to receive an invite, but not all teams are expected to accept invitations to the October LAN in Brisbane.

Mindfreak came close to qualifying, but couldn't complete their lower-bracket run, falling twice to Ground Zero in the playoffs. Other DFRAG Open Series 6 attendees Arcade and FURY sit on the cusp of an invite, but will need Asia/OCE teams ahead of them to decline invites.

This concludes the DFRAG Open Series in its current form. Without additional support from sponsors or additional funding, DFRAG will focus additional effort into LAN events in order to provide Asia and Oceanic squads opportunities to compete at a global level.
