After a devastating loss to TYLOO in the group final which included 11-straight round losses on Ancient and a one-versus-three to JamYoung, FlyQuest will have to be happy with third as their Esports World Cup hopes were dashed in Shanghai this week.

The light in the darkness was the rebound against JiJieHao in a close best-of-three to secure an additional $10,000 and third overall. After a back-to-back opening two maps, FlyQuest put JiJieHao to the sword on Ancient 13-4 to claim the win.

Expectations not met as FlyQuest fall short of EWC qualification

FlyQuest's ACL campaign started off well with a commanding series over NomadS. FlyQuest held the ship on Inferno and annihilated the minnows on Mirage. Declan “Vexite” Portelli posted a 2.00+ rating across both maps.

A meeting was booked with TYLOO in the upper bracket, but the Aussie squad couldn't complete the reverse sweep, going down swinging in the 2-1 (13-11, 8-13, 13-11) loss.

FlyQuest was forced through a lower bracket final against Rare Atom, opening strongly with a stomp on Dust 2 13-4, but lost a close Ancient 13-11.

It took a crazy entry by Corey “nettik” Browne, followed up by a crazy clutch by Iulian “regali” Harjău, and a final crazy hold from Jay “Liazz” Tregillgas and Vexite to seal Inferno 13-8 and book a TYLOO rematch in the group final.

The veto in the TYLOO rematch was identical but FlyQuest's execution was disastrous. TYLOO started off with an 8-0 lead on Inferno, with a recovery short-lived as the Chinese squad held their nerve to secure their map pick 13-7.

FlyQuest started off incredibly well on the T-side of Ancient with a 10-2 lead at the half, but that's where it ended for the Aussies. TYLOO stormed back to win 11 in a row, making a remarkable recovery bac

From the 2v4 with 11 seconds remaining into a 3v1 loss to JamYoung, FlyQuest fumbled badly to concede the upset loss and thus, the EWC qualifier.

Despite the win over JiJieHao in the third-place match, INS was hoping for a bit more from the event. "Third place here in China, unfortunately not the result we came here wanting but [it] wasn't meant to be," he said on X/Twitter after their win.

That's the final event wrapped for FlyQuest in the lead-up to the BLAST Austin Major, which begins June 3.
