FlyQuest breeze past OCE rivals to win HyperX Intel Nationals

For those hoping FlyQuest would return home and be upset by a hometown hero in Brisbane, The Boys turned those dreams to nightmares real quick with a flawless run at the HyperX Intel Nationals this weekend.

FlyQuest didn't drop a single map on their way to the trophy, cleaving their way though Ground Zero 2-0 on Sunday to lift their maiden OCE title on debut at the DFRAG Studio.

Along the way, the likes of DXA, Mindfreak, and even fellow IEM Cologne reps THUNDERdOWNUNDER were no match for the boys in green, with Declan "Vexite" Portelli (1.64 HLTV rating) leading the way as all five topped stats charts.

Up there was temporary stand-in Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai (1.42, 2nd overall), who delighted fans in his surprise return to competition in the region. He was dominant on the AWP, particularly in the grand final (38-19, 1.61).

GZ shocked TdU in the lower bracket final on Saturday, reverse sweeping the IEM Cologne reps on Anubis and Nuke to qualify for the grand final. A Jared "HaZR" O'Bree (30-20, 1.44) masterclass, combined with double-digit entries from Tom "apocdud" Henry saw TdU off earlier than expected.

However, they simply couldn't hold a candle to FlyQuest on the Sunday. FQ, behind Gratisfaction, got the ball rolling with a Dust 2 8-4 CT half that they quickly converted.

Grat kept it up on Anubis, and with Vexite (20-10, 1.85), didn't allow GZ a chance back into FQ's map pick. GZ found a fifth round at the death, but it was far too late for a comeback to be mounted.

Not to be forgotten for the weekend, Mindfreak snuck a top-four finish with wins over expected playoff squad Abyssal and a 2-0 against Rooster, in what was their first LAN appearance.

From here, FlyQuest will look to complete their move to Europe in the coming month, while the rest of the Aussie teams will be licking their wounds as the season and road to the Singapore Major gets underway.
