Catching up with Conky at DreamHack Melbourne

Conky and His Vision for ANZC

At DreamHack Melbourne, We had the opportunity to sit down with Conky, a prominent figure in the ANZ esports scene. Conky is deeply committed to nurturing local talent and grassroots esports through initiatives like Dfrag and ANZC.

The Role of DFrag and ANZC in the Esports Ecosystem

Conky explained that Dfrag and ANZC are designed to serve not just professional players but also to create opportunities at the open and challenger levels. He said, "It's been run purely on the energy of the people who want it to succeed, and want the player base to succeed." This community-driven approach is crucial for the sustainability and growth of the esports scene in the region.

"We try to meld it with feedback, and all that kind of stuff, and we can only work when the players give us that feedback, right?"

Challenges and Achievements

The journey hasn't been without its challenges. Conky openly shared the precarious nature of such ventures: "This thing could shut down at any time... It's all run by volunteers, always will be." Despite these hurdles, the success stories from these platforms, where players like ASAP and Savage climbed from open leagues to professional status, are testaments to their effectiveness.

"More subs, prize pool go up. Like it's not a thing where, you know, we're trying to profit out of it or anything like that. None of us have taken a dime."

Future Plans and Goals

Looking ahead, Conky is optimistic yet realistic about the future of ANZC. He aims to expand it into a full-fledged league that not only serves as a stepping stone to professional play but also nurtures a strong community around it. "We want to fix that, because we want people to succeed," he stated, emphasizing the importance of community support and involvement.

"We're always looking to expand, to integrate more deeply into the global esports scene through structured leagues and international collaborations."

Help us help you

Conky’s dedication to the ANZC esports scene is driven by a genuine love for the community and a desire to see it flourish. He concluded the interview with a call to action for greater community support: "Watch the content, buy the merch, retweet the tweet. If it's not collaborative, it won't work."

His vision for a thriving, supportive esports environment in ANZC is a beacon for all looking to grow in the industry.
